LIBRARY FACILITIES

This Institute has an excellent Centralized Air Conditioned Library with a vast collection of International and National Dental / Medical and other allied health science books and journals worth approximately Rs.320 lakhs. The book collection of the Library is 9180 and back volumes collection is 950. The library is subscribing 66 foreign Journals and 19 Indian journals.  The library annual budget is Rs.40 lakhs.

Government of Puducherry is allotting sufficient funds for the institution.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

Clinical Society of Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences convenes meetings every month, and speakers of repute are invited to deliver lectures on interesting topics.

Scientific Society of Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences conducts meetings once in three months and speakers from National level are invited to deliver lectures.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

Hostels for Gents and Ladies have been constructed aesthetically to accommodate 76 inmates in each hostel. This hostel is functioning from January 2004.

The vehicle parking shed has been constructed using FRP sheet pyramids to accommodate 16 four-wheeler vehicles at a cost of Rs.5,02,612/-. This parking shed has been declared open by the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Puducherry on 27.03.2004 and put in to use.

To create awareness among the public and patients about the importance of medicinal plants and herbs, a “Herbal Garden” has been developed in an area of 1200 sqm.

As a part of sports activities, Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton courts have been constructed and illuminated with high mast flood lighting arrangements.

State Bank of India, Extension Counter is housed in the Administrative Block.

The Hostels and Quarters have been provided with black topped road facilities and proper drainage arrangements.

Landscaping arrangement has been done in front of Administrative Block, BMSD Block, Hospital Service Block and main entrance (central median) to create greenish environment in this Institution.

Eight units of Type V Quarters for Professors at an estimated cost of Rs.56.00 lakhs have been constructed.

Marble stone flooring has been provided for the seminar halls A & B at an expenditure of around Rs.8.00 lacs. These halls have been air conditioned and made sound proof with false roofing and wall paneling to make it ideal to hold Conferences and Seminars of National and International levels.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

  • Herbal Garden and Vehicle Parking Shed at MGPGI were inaugurated by late Dr. R. Padmanaabhan, the then Chief Secretary, Govt. of Puducherry on 27.03.2004.

  • This Institution has participated in the 25th Flower and Vegetable show conducted by the Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of Puducherry on 23.02.2004 and won the following prizes.

(i)        First Prize for Best Herbel Garden.

(ii)            First Prize for Best Ornamental Garden.

(iii)          Third Prize for Best Island Garden.

Besides, this Institution has won the Shasun  Drugs Rolling Trophy for Herbal Garden.

 

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

             

It is proposed to develop Centres of Excellence in various specialities to provide `ALL UNDER ONE ROOF' concept with regard to patient care. This will give credibility to the Institute at National / International levels and shall boost up research activities. At present the following Centres of Excellence are proposed to be started and more shall follow in course of time.

  1. Advanced Centre for Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Implantology.

  2. Advanced Centre for Maxillofacial Tumor Biology.

  3. Advanced Centre for Maxillofacial Surgery.

  4. Advanced Centre for Dentofacial Orthopaedics.

        It is proposed to upgrade the existing Hospital to a 100 bedded multispeciality Hospital.

 

        Postgraduate Programmes in other Specialities and faculty exchange Programme are in the immediate plans.

 

              Construction of Staff Quarters for the teaching faculty, Auditorium, Examination hall, Canteen, Quarters for Group `C' and `D' are also in the pipeline.
