ABOUT US:
Pondicherry Dental College and Hospital was established in the year 1990. It was rechristened as Mahatma Gandhi Dental College and Hospital by the then  Lt. Governor, Her Excellency late Dr. (Tmt.) Rajendra Kumari Bajpai in the year 1995. It was renamed and upgraded to Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences on 08.09.2005. It is proposed to develop the Institute on par with other leading Medical Institutes in the country like AIIMS (New Delhi), PGI (Chandigarh), SGPGI (Lucknow).  The Institution has chosen the motto “Knowledge is Power” emphasizing that knowledge is the most essential thing to empower a person. Presently, it is offering 5 year BDS course (inclusive of one year paid compulsory rotatory internship). Postgraduate course is offered in five specialities. Starting of Postgraduate programmes in three more specialities is in the pipeline. Since its inception, eleven batches of students have graduated from this Institution and four batches have finished postgraduation. The degrees (BDS and MDS) are recognized by the Dental Council of India and this Institution is affiliated to the Pondicherry University (a Central University).

The Institution is an autonomous body
fully funded and owned by the Government of Puducherry. The Institute is administered by a constituted Board of Governors headed by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Puducherry as its Chairman. Within a short period, the Institution has attained the peak, with due recognition at National and International level.

It has been declared as the best Dental Institution in the Country, in the Government Sector, by the then President,  Dental Council of India in September 2000 and again by the present President, Dental Council of India in December 2004.
